When to trim hedges in Brisbane

It depends on the plant, the weather and how hard the hedge needs cutting. In Brisbane we prefer lighter trims while the hedge is growing, and we avoid cutting hard in a heatwave.

For most homes, regular trims keep the shape far more easily than letting the hedge get out of hand and then hacking it back.

Why hedges go thin at the bottom

They're cut straight up and down, or wider at the top than the base. The top shades the lower growth.

Taper the sides slightly so the base sits a little wider than the top. The hedge stays full from top to bottom and holds its shape for years.

When to call someone in

Book hedge trimming when the hedge is tall, it's hard to get to, the plant needs careful handling, or the shape has drifted so far that a rough cut would make it worse. Green waste removal is included after hedge trimming.
